Czech beer Budweiser Budvar has a new global visual identity for its bottles. The new design takes stylistic cues from its own historical label archive, dating back to its founding in 1895, and features a classic colour palette inspired by the Czech flag.
The vintage logo is framed in the upper area of the label by the historic emblem of České Budějovice (or "Budweis" as it is known in German. The centre area of the new design is also a clear reference to Budvar's local ingredients: whole-cone Saaz hops from the Czech Republic's renowned Žatec hop region; the finest Moravian beans; and 10,000-year-old natural water collected from an ancient aquifer dating back to the Ice Age, located 300 m below the brewery.
There is also the phrase - "Owned by the Czech Republic" - which frames the logo at the bottom of the label. This statement celebrates the continued independence of the Budvar brewery.
The packaging rebranding launches with the global Budvar Greetings from the Republic of Beer campaign, which positions the Czech Republic - where the amount of beer consumed per capita is higher than anywhere else in the world - as the true Republic of Beer.
Budweiser Budvar is the national brewery of the Czech Republic and an internationally recognised iconic Czech lager brewed in one place in the whole world: in České Budějovice (Budweis), South Bohemia, since 1895. The brewery still proudly uses the finest whole-cone Saaz hops, Moravian malts, artesian water from an ancient aquifer still from the Ice Age, located 300 metres below the brewery.
